Take & Make Meal Plan
Take and Make meal boxes, which provide students with raw ingredients for cooking their own meals, is one of the new Northland College meal plan options. Piloted in fall 2013, and based on student feedback, we're excited to announce the following changes:
More local and organic foods
In addition to the many local veggies and Great Oak Farm eggs, this semester's boxes will include:
- All breads and bagels are from the Ashland Baking Company
- All tomatoes are from Bay Produce, grown in a half acre greenhouse in Superior, WI which employs people with disabilities
- Bodin's supplies frozen and smoked fish
- Bayfield Apple Company Jam
- Organic or socially responsible brands whenever possible
More Selection
This semester, you will receive some staples but will have the option to customize your box with choices:
- Milk, Soy Milk, or Almond Milk
- Deli meats or hummus
- Choice of cereal
- Choice of fruits
More Balance
Each box was revamped to include a balance of:
- Fruits, vegetables, proteins, dairy, and grains in appropriate quantities for health living
- Quick, easy make meals and slow foods
- Perishable and nonperishable foods
Pantry Box
At the beginning of the semester, you will receive a pantry box with staples for creating meals throughout the semester.
- Olive oil
- Grapeseed oil
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Sea salt
- Fresh pepper
- Spices (you choose three)
- Garlic
- Honey
- And much more!
The boxes will have less processed foods overall and lots of recipes to help you create nutritious, seasonal, and sustainable meals.
To enroll in this meal plan, please fill out a meal plan change form, which is available outside Ponzio Room 227.
If you have dietary concerns or questions about this meal plan, please contact Amanda Tutor, Director of Food Service.
