Profile
In high school, long before I had any notions of a life spent writing, I penned a letter to the editor criticizing their lack of coverage of an exceptional local athlete. They published it and I was taken by the power of the pen. Later, living and working in Washington D.C., I again wrote a letter but this time to the Washington Post on the topic of Dan Quayle and Murphy Brown. I became a reporter, writing for the Milwaukee Journal (as a stringer), the Christian Science Monitor (freelance), the Ashland Daily Press and the Bayfield County Journal. I love everything about non-fiction writing: the variety of stories, the tight deadlines, the intensive research, and interviews with people I never would have met. Then there's the struggle to get it right every time. I now freelance stories, write a blog(honestdog.net)and in my role as outreach coordinator, work to spread the word about the Chequamegon Bay Area Partnership and the Fish Creek Landowner Partner! ship. In my spare time, I teach various courses at Northland College (News Reporting, Film and English), run a team of Siberian huskies (Honest Dog Kennel), cross-country ski, organize an annual event for writers called Writers Read, paddle a canoe, and raise two precocious children. My husband, Charly, and I have done some crazy canoe and dogsledding trips. My book entitled, "Paddling to Winter," that describes our year-long honeymoon on the trail, will be published by Raven Productions sometime in 2013.
