Northland College Winds presents Valentine’s Day concert for children
February 7, 2012
Love is in the air and fun is all around for kids attending the Northland College Winds concert "Cartoons, Clowns and Merry-go-rounds" at 7 p.m. on Valentine's Day in the Alvord Theatre at Northland College. The annual children's concert on Feb. 14 seeks to delight youngsters with music for all ages, as well as provide food and activities. The event, another offering in the Northland College Community Connections series, is free and open to the public.
The Northland College Winds will perform selections familiar to children, including "Under the Sea" from the Disney film "The Little Mermaid." In addition, the concert will feature hare-raising tunes from "What's Up at the Symphony (Bug's Bunny's Greatest Hits)."
"The concert provides another entertainment venue for families with kids," says Joel Glickman, Northland College Winds conductor and Music Director at Northland College. "Band instruments will be demonstrated at the outset to inform the choices of youngsters who may be entering school bands soon and all children about the make-up and sound of band."
Kids are encouraged to gather on the stage after the program to see instruments close-up. Crayons and paper will be offered to children for drawing and coloring during the program. Milk and cookies will be served after the concert.
