Profile
Erica LeMoine was appointed LoonWatch and Citizen Science Coordinator for the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute in January 2011. She's been working in natural resources education and field research for the last 14 years.Erica's career has evolved into a combination of environmental education and field work, most recently as Water Quality Monitoring Coordinator for the non-profit Minnesota Waters, providing hands-on training workshops, instruction manuals and volunteer support. Before that she lived in coastal Georgia and coordinated a community-based oyster reef restoration program for the University of Georgia Marine Extension Service, conducted sea turtle research for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and worked as an Interpretive Naturalist for Little St. Simon's Island (a privately owned resort with property in an Important Bird Area). She volunteered to help the Georgia DNR with shorebird banding and sea turtle presentations, and the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve with Beach Sweeps, sea turtle hikes, updates, and sea turtle workshop. Erica is happy to be working with Loon Rangers, lake associations, and anyone interested in protecting loons and their h! abitat! She grew up in the drumlin hills southeast of Watertown, Wisconsin and enjoys birding, hiking, photography, gardening, collecting rocks on the shores of Lake Superior, meeting Loon Rangers, and visiting family and friends.
