Education
Steve Wammer begins his eleventh year as the Director of Athletics at Northland College in 2009-10. Since his arrival on campus, he has overseen the expansion of the Athletic Department growing from six to ten sports, coordinated Northland's move to NCAA Division III, and has helped hire a full-time coaching staff. Wammer has the second longest tenure as an athletic director in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). He has been integrally involved in the growth of the Conference, chairing a number of committees and was one of two athletic directors to serve on the conference's strategic planning committee. In the summer of 2008, Wammer was selected to serve on the NCAA Division III national softball committee representing the Great Lakes region, becoming the first person from a UMAC member institution to serve on a NCAA National Committee.
An Audubon, Minnesota native, Wammer is a 1986 graduate of Concordia College (Moorhead, Minn.). He worked on the coaching staff at Concordia for two years following graduation before accepting a head coaching position at UW-Barron County (Rice Lake, Ill) where he also worked in student services. In 1993 he was named Assistant Director of Athletics & Student Activities at McHenry County College (Crystal Lake, Ill.) where he served until coming to Northland in 1999.
Wammer is also the Head Coach of the Northland Softball program. A position he has held since 2002. In his first eight seasons, he has led the LumberJills to the UMAC Tournament Championship Game four times and their first Tournament Championship in 2008.
Steve and his wife Debbie, a third grade teacher, reside in Ashland with their three children, Emily (12), Samuel (12), and Jacob (12).
