LoonWatch Student Opportunities
LoonWatch Work Study and Summer Internship
Students gain practical experience assisting the LoonWatch Coordinator with program tasks. Work study students help LoonWatch during the school year, working no more than 20 hours per week, and are paid through the federal work study program. Most work study students work an average of 6-8 hours per week. Summer internship offers a student the chance to hone their skills in a specific area, and help LoonWatch during its busiest season. Both work study and internship students will learn many aspects of running a successful outreach program. Opportunities include participating in the Speakers' Bureau program by helping to update, develop and give innovative public presentations to audiences such as local school classes, lake associations, and other organizations interested in learning more about loons and how to protect them. Students can also gain experience by providing support for the volunteer monitoring programs: entering and analyzing monitoring form data, learning about loons through research and readings, and provide answers to Loon Rangers' questions. Students may also help by providing updates and current information to the LoonWatch Blog and Facebook page, researching and writing articles for the Tremolo newsletter, and assisting with the photo contest and educational materials for the Loon Appreciation Week poster
