Up at the Lake with Loon Program

Common Loons truly are a symbol of the northwoods – but they are more than that. Their presence is a barometer of the health of lake ecosystems.

The coordinator of Project LoonWatch will take you on a journey into the world of loons and their lake territories.

Learn about their calls, ecology, and unique stories from LoonWatch’s past 30 years.

5.23 - "Splintered"
At the Washburn Cultural Center from 5 - 7 p.m. Come check out Elisabeth Hume's Senior Art Exhibition, "Splintered," the reception is on Thursday and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided at the Washburn Cultural Center. Elisabeth describes her work, "As an artist, I am inspired by moments within memories and dreams; they become the reality that is my art. Over the past four years, I have discovered new and old techniques in photography and printmaking. This discovery has allowed me to work specifically in historical photography mediums such as tintypes, Vandyke brown prints, intaglio, and photo intaglio. These processes have an inherent spirituality and feeling of otherworldliness; this creates a backdrop to all of my work." www.elisabethhume.com

5.31 - Brother Bear Award for Birkebeiner Ski Race
Annually the Brother Bear Fund supports the entry fees for two Northland College students (one male and one female) to ski the American Birkebeiner Ski Race. The 2014 race takes place February 20-23.

An email with application materials was sent to all students on Monday, May 20. Application materials are due on Friday, May 31. If you have any questions or need the application form again, please contact Stacy Craig at (715) 682-1232 or scraig@northland.edu. About the Fund
The Brother Bear Endowment Fund was established in memory of the life, work, and adventurous spirit of Bjorn Norgaard, Class of 2010. Opportunities to serve and learn outside the classroom enriched his Northland College experience. It is the donors’ wish that this fund will give other students some of the same opportunities.
