Profile
Northland College students' seriousness, investment in making a positive
impact in the world, and optimism inspire me. Many are truly dedicated
to their studies; they know why they’re in college. It's such a pleasure
to work with students who care. The college's small size, unique
atmosphere, and environmental focus make for a one-of-a-kind education.
Northland College is a quirky little school with a big heart and a
wealth of talent. It offers quality and diversity in service of a great
mission.
As an undergraduate at Grinnell College, I encountered marvelous
teachers whose passion for literature was contagious. They encouraged me
as a writer and taught me the rewards of close reading – I was hooked.
Now I have devoted my career to encouraging my students in the same way.
I divide my research time between poetry writing/publishing and
ecofeminist theory/criticism. My recent scholarship has made connections
between academic ecological feminism and the new field of queer
ecology, examining politics of nature, gender, the body, and sexuality
as represented in literature and especially in film.
